Stanley Garfinkel (1930-1997) was an oral historian, documentarian, and history professor at Kent State University. After college, Garfinkel worked in his family's seven-store chain Garfinkel Shoes. He was appointed office manager of the company in the early 1960s, but was encouraged by his father to pursue his dream of teaching.
